The final meeting of the Montgomery County Commission on Thurs., Oct. 6 which resulted in the long-awaited approval of Ronnie Moss’s application to build a drag strip on what is now farm ground on the South Outer Road between the New Florence and Danville exits of I-70 was either anticlimactic or a relief, depending on your point of view. Drag strip proposal races across the finish line with Montgomery County governmentOctober 6, 2011 - 3:10pm — Anonymous
Story by Carolyn Gerding This afternoon (Thu., Oct. 6, 2011) the Montgomery County Commission unanimously approved Mid America Raceway Park Developer Ronnie Moss's application for a conditional use permit to build a drag strip on the South Service Road between the New Florence and Danville exits of I-70 after asking Moss a few questions regarding the operating hours, sound barriers, and storm water runoff. The Commission appears to have tried hard to button-down every potential legal issue and make the approval as legally solid as possible. Eight homeowners near the race track site have hired a powerful St. Louis law firm to represent them in their opposition to the race track. In the early summer P&Z meetings, it was not clear how much county government support Moss's proposed project had. But in recent weeks, Moss seems to have garnered substantial support from key officials. Economic development for central Montgomery County seems to be a major factor weighing in favor of Moss's project. The lodging and restaurant industry as far away as Hermann, in Gasconade County, is expected to benefit from the new race track -- which will be the only such track in central Missouri.
