A message from Montgomery County Sheriff Bob Davis

A lady in Montgomery called to report a telephone scam. A foreign sounding gentleman called her and said he would be issuing her a new medical card that she should carry with her at all times with her Medicare card. She said the connection was very poor as the gentleman's voice kept cutting in and out. He had her name, address, and of course her phone number - but, he then asked for the name of her bank.

A message from Montgomery County Sheriff Bob Davis

Saturday morning around 4 A.M. a driver from Jefferson City got on the interstate at the Danville overpass going east in the west bound lane. The first vehicle she hit head-on burst into flames, killing the driver instantly. An 18 wheeler following that vehicle tried to avoid the wrong way driver but hit her driving her backwards about 200 yards. The woman was trapped in her vehicle and had to be extricated and life flighted by helicopter.

A message from Sheriff Bob Davis - 6th grader with marijuana, motorcycles, vehicles v. deer, I-70 MM 181

Deputies referred a 6th grader to the juvenile office this week when the child was found to be in possession of marijuana. It’s a sad statistic that every time we have discovered a middle school age child in possession of marijuana they got it from home.

A message from Sheriff Bob Davis: Deer on road and carbon monoxide detectors

Deer season has started and we have already had a few deer versus car accidents. Be especially vigilant on secondary roads early in the morning and again at dusk. Also remember the deer plus one rule. When you see a deer in the road and are able to avoid it there is a very good chance there will be one behind it you didn’t see.

A message from Montgomery County Sheriff Bob Davis - Beware of junk e-mail from man soliciting strangers worldwide to care for his kids

Monday we assisted the Montgomery County Health Department with the seatbelt compliance checks at the R-II High School. We hand out candy to those who wear their seatbelt and a pamphlet on the dangers of not doing so to those who didn’t buckle up. This year we only had 3 that didn’t have their safety belt on.

A message from Sheriff Bob Davis - Mark your expensive items; prepare for credit card theft

A probation officer in the county saw a suspect that he knew had a warrant for breaking parole and began to follow him with his car. The probation officer called a deputy to come and arrest the suspect. The suspect ran on foot from the deputy through the woods. When the deputy started gaining on the suspect the man jumped into a pond and started swimming away.
