WEDNESDAY: Local Foods Circle meeting potluck supper Dec. 14 at McKittrick Farmers Mercantile – Everyone welcome

by Joey Los, McKittrick Farmers Mercantile

Our local foods circle is growing! What is the local foods circle? The local foods circle is a supportive group of food producers and consumers interested in buying local foods. Each month our group meets at the McKittrick Farmers Mercantile for a potluck supper and an educational presentation. This month’s meeting is Wed., Dec. 14 at 6:00p. m. at McKittrick Farmers Mercantile. Everyone is welcome.

The group consists of both local food producers providing meat, produce, baked goods and more, as well as consumers committed to purchasing local foods. Our goal is to create a viable year round marketplace of local foods here in our area. Too many local food producers are driving their products to the larger urban areas where they can get better prices and have a consistent market. We are creating a market for them here. We all eat food every day. We too would like to know, personally, where our food is coming from.

At our last meeting, Janet Hurst discussed the SARE grant program (Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education). This month we will share the grant proposals which were inspired by her presentation. Bring your seed catalogs and we can discuss sharing seed orders and we may have a presentation on keeping livestock.
