OBITUARY: WELLSVILLE: Betty Harrington Qualls (Jan. 31, 1947 to Apr. 14, 2012)

Betty Elizabeth Harrington Qualls, 65, of Monroe, North Carolina, formerly of Wellsville, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center – Union, in Monroe, North Carolina.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 21st at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Wellsville.  Rev. James Rogers will officiate.  Organist will be Gwen Harrington.

Burial will be in the Wellsville Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers will be Paul Briscoe, Pete Harrington, Queaintin Jones, Ryan Jordan, Philip Kemp and Wayne Kemp.  Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Briscoe, Charles Donell, Keith Donell, Dayna Jones and Brandon Warren.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service, Saturday, at the church.

Mrs. Qualls was born January 31, 1947, in Wellsville, Missouri, the daughter, of Roy Bell and Gladys Helen Brookins Harrington.

On September 16, 1965, in Peoria, Illinois, she married Rudean Qualls.  He preceded her in death.

Betty was a 1964 graduate of Wellsville High School.  She continued her education, attending one year of college at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.

She had been employed as a teen parent program coordinator at the Family Service Center in Springfield, Illinois, where she had lived most of her adult life, before moving to North Carolina in 2004.

Betty was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and the Elks Lodge Capital City Temple 818 IBPOE of W in Springfield, Illinois.

She enjoyed dancing, reading and meeting new people.

Betty is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Monique Rochelle and Jeffrey Freeney, of Indian Trail, North Carolina; granddaughters, Simone Monique Freeney and Amber Nicole Freeney, both of Indian Trail, North Carolina; sisters, Dorcas Katurah Harrington, of Wellsville, Geraldine Marie “Jerri” Harrington, of Warrenton and Gloria Jean “Honey” Harrington, of Clarksville; in addition to several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rudean Qualls; son, Brian Donnell Qualls and sister, Elnora Maxine Briscoe.
